2024
The Specials of this year explore different topics with experts, makers and the audience.
Historical, cultural and social themes, movements and visions reflected in dance and film, are being addressed in short films, documentaries and performances.
In this year’s Special Breaking the Chains we show films with postcolonial themes, that portray the effects of slavery persisting into the present. A thematic line that includes a curation of exclusive short films and the documentaries Kite Zo A – Leave the Bones, Kumina Queen and Uprooted: The Journey of Jazz Dance. Guest curator Helena Jonsdottir brings Iceland in the Eye, a fascinating program that pulls us into the heart of Iceland with captivating landscapes and a sense of humour.
And we have several anniversary celebrations: SNDO (School for New Dance Development) celebrates 50 years with a special documentary about Ria Higler, one of the most impactful educators of the school. The Junior Company of the Dutch National Ballet is also celebrating its 10-year anniversary with a special short documentary. Last but not least, the screening of Cinedans FEST 20 years brings together some of the best films of the festival so far.
