MOVING MEDIA LAB

Video edited by Steven Elbers, with used content from the selected makers practises.

Moving Media Lab...

is a place for creatives within the arts, design and science, who have an interest in the relationship between new technologies, movement and the body With the ambition to gather and exchange knowledge from various fields, to bring about innovative research and genuine interdisciplinary creative working practises. Moving Media Lab was initiated in 2023 by Cinedans, as its producer, and is supported by the Fund for the Creative Industries, Het Cultuurfonds and Cinedans. The Partners of Moving Media Lab are DansBrabant Tilburg, Design Academy Eindhoven, Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam, Nederlandse Dansdagen Maastricht, Korzo The Hague, and VRDays / Immersive Tech Week Rotterdam. The Selected Makers are:  Bregje Benecke, Steven Elbers, Abel Enklaar, Thibaud Henique, Rens Hoofs, Ildikó Horváth, Rawan Khater, Olympia Kotopoulos, Ennya Larmit, Cerian Mason, Soyun Park, Albert Rask, Maria Sartzetaki and Josse Vessies

An ethos…Standing with multiperspectivism,
inclusivity, and collaboration…

14 makers based in the Netherlands were selected for the Lab, out of an astonishing 120 applications! The selected makers come from diverse disciplines, including sound, sculpture, film, dance, architecture, technology and more…Contrary to prevailing trends, the focus of the Lab is on collective processes, rather than individual practices. Precisely for this reason, inspired by the concept of affinity groups, the makers through dialogue and discussion, formed 3 non-hierarchical groups: ‘temporary collectives’. These collectives are characterised by diversity in expertise and skills, and brought together by their burning questions, interests and ideas.
The Lab runs… Following two editorial lines
from 2023 - 2025...

During the Lab the 14 makers will travel throughout the Netherlands hosted each time by a different partner for a week. Part of the week is dedicated to attaining new tools and knowledge together, through various workshops, masterclasses and lectures from experts in the field (Educational Line), and the rest of the time is reserved for each group to integrate the newly acquired knowledge and to focus on their collective researches (Research Line).

Having visions…
Nurturing the ‘In-Between’

- MML wishes for a genuine interdisciplinarity, achieved by promoting equality among fields and nurturing the ‘in-between’. Knowledge is situated, and of nobody. It is activated, and passes through each of us.

- MML seeks to gather, exchange and disseminate knowledge from various fields, focusing on practices, ideas, skills, and modes of working that move us beyond a discipline. To be surprised, confused and excited by finding something that was not known before.

- MML envisions a sustainable learning community, without missing out on quality.

- MML wants to achieve it together with organisations and publics, within The Netherlands and beyond, by strengthening networks, supporting exchanges both online and away from screen
