Moving Media Lab Workshop -
Movement through and with a lens
As part of Cinedans, the Moving Media Lab trajectory will host a film workshop 'Movement through and with a lens', organized by two makers of Moving Media Lab, Steven Elbers and Albert Rask.
'Movement through and with a lens' is a hands-on workshop that introduces how to play with the spectator's gaze from the perspective of a lens. The workshop touches upon camera techniques and cinematic experiments. Through group exercises, participants will alternate between filming and moving in space, discovering various ways to direct perspective and alter the perception of a viewer through a frame. This workshop will be wrapped up with a visit to OT301, where we watch the films of the Moving Media Lab makers; Steven Elbers, Albert Rask and Ennya Larmit, alongside the outcomes of the workshop, on the big screen with time for reflections.
This workshop is FREE, and open to makers from all fields of work, who have an interest to develop their knowledge and skills in camera and movement collaboratively. Participants are expected to bring along their phone to use as a camera, however it is encouraged to bring any extra materials that may be useful such as cameras, laptops and tripods. A basic lunch will be provided.
Steven Elbers is an Amsterdam based audiovisual designer with a strong connection to human stories. Graduated from Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts and Design, his artistic practice focuses on independent art projects rooted in movement and dance, working with cinematography, filming and editing in a style that encourages deep engagement between the camera and subject, as if it were a dancer himself.
Albert Rask is a multidisciplinary artist seeking to capture that which cannot stand still. Amsterdam based and graduated from The Gerrit Rietveld Academy, film is at the heart of his practice, together with other media in motion such as sound and kinetic sculptures. Concerned with the absurdity of everyday behavior and reflecting upon dialogue and social structures.
