The Winner of Cinedans FEST '25

A festive Ceremony Award took place during the weekend of Cinedans FEST '25 at Eye Filmmuseum Amsterdam.

On Saturday, March 22, the International Student Competition prize was awarded.

The Jury of Cinedans FEST ‘25 consisted of:

Emma Evelein (NL) choreographer, director, and independent artist.

christopher tym (UK) artist-filmmaker.

Henry Tawiah (NL) choreographer and artistic director.

"We’re honored to contribute to a platform that gives a stage to new and experienced dance film makers. Out of over a 100 entries, we watched the 14 submissions that have been  selected, all very diverse and unique dance film works. We were impressed by the topics translated to us through the screen: exploitation, accountability, grief, and loneliness. It is greatly encouraging to see the new generation tackling these topics with creativity, collaboration and bravery."

The Best International Student Film 2025:

CHIQUITA PICONERA

ES | 2024 | 12’
Director Mey Montero | Choreographers Abel González, Rubén Rojo

The Jury Statement:

“In Chiquita Piconera the body is restrained in stark black and white as the frame almost oppresses the protagonist with it's sharp weight, but in times of uncertainty and when all feels like it is lost there is always the body to return to, and the release that flamenco offers finally brings whats feels like colour back into the world and the realisation that all is not lost. “

The winner has been awarded a camera by our sponsor Canon and the film will be included in our Cinedans TOUR. Congratulations!

Special Mentions

MY NAME IS THE SOUND I USE TO INTRODUCE MYSELF

NL | 2023 | 9’
Director & Choreographer Albert Rask

My name is the sound I use to introduce myself feels like an elegy to the desire for physical contact, relational connection and self-expression. A virtuosic one-take where actions happen outside the frame and micro-expressions tell a thousand words as this dance as old as time feels like is still taking place in the garages and basements all over the world”.

ABSENT PRESSENCE

IT | 2023 | 1’
Director & Choreographer Giorgia Ponticello

Absent Presence has a strong creative visual, with well-chosen camera language and good choice in movement. The hand choreography makes you feel we follow a character, while the film portrays the dynamics and stillness of being at the same time”.

SYNCOPE

CH | 2023 | 21’

Director Linus von Stumberg | Choreographers Sarafina Beck, Linus von Stumberg

Syncope successfully translated a powerful narrative and message to its viewers. With strong choreography, editing and cinematography, Syncope makes you feel the importance of narrative like you are a part of the story”.

Cinedans AUDIENCE AWARD 2025

My Name is the Sound I use to Introduce Myself

NL | 2023 | 9’
Director & Choreographer Albert Rask

A group of young men waltz in pairs, balancing with a glass between their foreheads. In this captivating setting, director Albert Rask crafts a new code of conduct - an allegory reflecting the experience of growing up. A playful yet poignant exploration that reframes the burdens of responsibility, expectations and the rules of adulthood.

Cinedans Pitch Prize

with a cash prize of €500

The project proposal winner:

It Caught Me by Clarinde Wesselink (NL)

It Caught Me is an immersive choreographic installation where sound, movement converge to explore the physical and mental impact of stress. Clarinde is a student for: DAS Choreography (Amsterdam) & Exchange student, Master’s program, Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO)

To support makers and foster innovation in the genre, Cinedans has been awarding the Cinedans Pitch Prize since 2022—alternating annually between professionals and students. Artists from various disciplines are invited to submit proposals for film projects, installations, and VR experiences in which dance and movement are leading.
